POLOP ROCK FESTIVAL - Band Bio
POLOP ROCK FESTIVAL - '06 REVIEW

We would like to thank everyone who came to the third annual POLOP ROCK FESTIVAL in October 2006. It was a total beer fuelled blast as usual!
21:00 HOURS - MOLLY'S CHAMBER were quite literally superb! We think this duo have the makings of folk stardom! No joke, Just check out their page and hear their serenity. What in gods name are they doing undiscovered? Come on you lot, wake up! We've filmed a video of live footage which we'll put out very soon! Marisa sang beautifully in the candlelit room overlooking the main stage accompanied by Ramon who played a blinder on Acoustic Guitar. A true honour was bestowed when the Town Mayor and local associates sat front stage and watched the second set open mouthed in awe!
22:00 hours - Next act on was GREEDY JESUS on stage 3 (La Font) This short well presented set was well received and a taster for his show which was to come the following night.
12:45 Hours - JAY HARDEN (Els Xorros & stage 3) Jay had turned up late saturday night after his long trip down from Barcelona and was re-scheduled to play the following lunchtime. This is serious no-nonsense Folk/Blues. After one hour of original songs played to a raptuous little venue Jay bade farewell to the crowd. He then sped off in an awaiting Taxi. (A true Star exit!) The set was recorded and parts of the show were filmed by UKFM for future releases on his myspace website. His son `Stars Above´ was played to perfection and Jay Harden showed Polop that dedication and talent can take acoustic music to a new level. Check out his page on myspace for more info and original music by Jay!
19:00 hours - PAUL MORRIS (stage 2). A quiet mini-set by a great new musician. Paul Morris was booked in the last week of the organisation process. A local lad from Liverpool. After a brief jam session in Liverpool with KillerMiller & Greedy Jesus, Paul hit the indoor stage with three new songs. He quietly rocked out and brought the merry crowd to a standstill with his interesting style of classic covers. For a solo artist he sure filled the place with enough sound! The set was good and the newcomer had his first taste of Lights, Sound and Cameras. Lets hope he makes it one day! After thirty minutes and to the delight of Polop, Paul smiled. Waved and stood down totally happy & with a sense of fulfilment.
20:00 hours - KILLERMILLER took to the stage to a warm welcome. He played his old haunt for 30 minutes re-living some past leftover jokes with the local crowd. His songs: The Dracula Spectacular, Pieces Missing, Whisky & Women, Blue Sharp, Baby (I wanna make love to you), The Condor, were all played acoustically and un-accompanied. (The first time in 3 years at Tasca L'Albarda!) Video was recorded as was Audio and Live releases will be out soon! Check his page for releases from this set now!
21:00 hours - GREEDY JESUS took to the stage for the first time abroad. His nerves soon filtered away and he got his teeth into the crowd with his special brand of acoustic music. His voice filtered through the Spanish air like a sweet scent and the crowd soon warmed to his perfect harmony and melody. The set was a true success and he'll be back in 2007! Video again was filmed and will be released in the near future here on myspace.
22:00 hours - THE NOMAD (Blues Karaoke Show) Bruce Dowding Rocked out in La Tasca!
24:00 hours - THE EMPTY BOTTLES. This years headliners took to the stage at midnight to what was to be nearly 2 hours of solid energy and Rock passion! The floor pounded to the Vocals of Tony Miles who in the short space of three years has devoured the Alicante Rock scene and is now hungry for more! The Empty Bottles have a new page at Myspace! Check it out you ´ll find both Video & Audio from this great gig coming there soon!
OUR REGRETS GO TO TWO BANDS: WAKAMOLE & MORT OU LA MEGAPHONE who were both cancelled due to lack of co-operation from the Town Hall. Permission to play on the outdoor stage was denied for the Sunday evening. Therefore these bands were cancelled.
Bands on Stage One - 7th October
Naïf, Snra. Robinson, Hangover
SEE YOU ALL AT THE 2007 POLOP FESTIVAL! THANKS AGAIN!

19:00 HOURS - So anyhow the event kicked off with what turned out to be the best band of the whole evening THE EMPTY BOTTLES they were quite literally superb! Polop loves them and they express the same opinion of Polop. I think this band have the makings of super stardom! No joke just check out the festival Mp3 download site and hear their brilliance. What the hell are they doing undiscovered? Come on Spain wake up!

`The musicianship is bloody brilliant for a local band! I can´t believe they´re not up there with the best on tv and radio!´ - (KillerMiller- Nov. 2005)

After the superb 1 hour set featuring classics like `Born On the Bayou´ and THE EMPTY BOTTLES song `Mistreater´ The band stayed on all night and soaked up the unique and youthfull atmosphere the festival provokes. THE EMPTY BOTTLES were cheered off stage raptuously after 2 encores. They will be appearing at the 2006 festival in Polop as well as at Bar La Tasca in January 2006. UKFM recorded 25 minutes of this appearence and you can find it at http://poloprock.dmusic.com - 3 x live tracks + Their farewell speech.

20:00 hours - Next band on were THE LEFTOVERS on stage 2 (inside La Tasca). KillerMiller was back! But where were the band? The truth is they hadn´t yet turned up and it was 8pm. The set went ahead with a Jam. This consisted of KillerMiller (Vocals/Guitar) - Chris Paynton (Vocals/Guitar) - Nick Collins (Bass) - Vaso (Drums) - The set was a bit scratchy but somehow they managed to pull off a decent little show. It was filmed and will surface in the near future. The set consisted of: The wall, Is it all in vain?, Stand by Me, Hey Joe and many, many more. Due to sound problems on stage 1 the jam session went on for one hour. THE LEFTOVERS finished off with a swift bow and a hearty thankyou. KillerMiller says `I couldn´t concentrate on my music as everyone was just asking me questions about what the other bands were doing. It was a pleasure to play with Nick again though and D-PROYECT were a blast to be with. Thanks guys!´ sadly his own digital Mini-Disk recording of this Jam has been destroyed by mistake and only one video recording is known to exist. Chris Paynton said of the event `It was great to play all the things I don´t get to do with D- PROYECT. KillerMiller and Nick are both talented and I enjoyed playing´ - Thanks to ex-Leftover Carlos Domene for hooking us up in the first place! Cheers mate!

21:00 hours - At precisely 9pm MANDELBERRY hit the stage and the town square erupted to the sound of straight rock. The band were great! A video has been released of one song along with an Mp3 - `Han Caido Los Dos´. This can be found via the link below.

http://putfile.com/ukfm/media

You´ll find more photographs and details there. The video was recorded by Bo Suzmozas and Edited by KillerMiller in November 2005. Check it out and download it FREE now.

MANDELBERRY consists of 4 fine musicians from Alicante. Their set is good and the music is tight. They play a mix of covers and their own material. Culmunating in the Black Sabbath classic `Paranoia´. The music is flavoured and lead singer sings in both Spanish ans English which is a novelty in itself. The band were very well received and many people in Polop agreed that they were well worth seeing live. Some went as far as to say that they stole the show. I like to think that they contributed strongly and are booked to play the festival in 2006. They will also be appearing again at Tasca L´albarda in December 2005.

The MANDELBERRY show wound down to a stop and the 1000 people gathered threw their arms in the air and screamed. Yes, polop had found it´s voice and the young girls at the front were than noticable! The band hung around until about 3am. Drinking and chatting with the locals. What a nice bunch of lads. Thanks boys and see you again very soon! Good luck with the gigs in the city and keep in touch! You rock!

22:00 hours - BLAH BLAH CAFÉ Live on stage 2. This was a very pleasant surprise. The band had been asked on the pretext that they came as CURIOUS CORN. The event organisers were however unaware that that band ceased to exist in the summer of 2005. And so was born JAZZ CAFÉ. KillerMiller recalls `I used to play with them and knew that deep down they had this wonderful music inside of them. Frankie and their new singer bring out that brilliance´ . What a set! The saxophone filled the square with hypnotic jazz tinted music. The set was stupidly not recorded by ukfm due to some equipment failure. However 2 first class photographs have emerged and i´m sure they´ll be more to come very soon. The memory of that one hour of pure coolness is fresh in the crowds´ memories. Well done and come back in 2006! You are always more than welcome. Many Thanks and the best of luck to you all! - More Details from this band soon.....

23:00 hours - The outdoor stage was now ready for the self-promoted act CRUZADOS ROCK. They play in your face and have plenty of power. The set was long however and the other bands got pretty pissed off having to wait for their spot. The music was generally cover songs. The best part is when Leader Bruce started the harp solo and the blues riffs filled the autumn night air. The guitar work was well played and the band got a good response from the polop folk. Thanks for organising the stage and all the promotional work that they did for us. Many covers were played and the crowd sang along and generally had a good time.

00:45 Hours - THE LEFTOVERS stage 2. The band turned up and THE LEFTOVERS hit the crowd with ´their no-nonsense rock. 30 minutes of original songs played to a packed venue. Songs played were: Jamaica, Tell me i´m crazy, Whisky and Women, The City clown, Breathe, The Wall , Yes it´s true. KillerMiller had a sore throat (from all the days´ talking and shouting) and hissed his words through the house PA. The set was recorded and some extracts from the gig appear on the polop festival mp3 website. Steve Rolf on bass was very off key but the veterans of rock carried on regardless. Al Willemsen shined on drums and Mirek stefka gave everyone a lesson in Psychedelic Guitar playing. A good little gig and enjoyed by all! Julian from La Tasca says `Without The Leftovers there is no Polop Rock Festival´. Thanks lads and until the next time soon!

01:00 hours - D-PROYECT stage 1. A strong set by a great new band. This band was booked in the last week of the organisation process. KillerMillers´ best friend Carlos put them in touch. A local band with european roots. After the jam session with THE LEFTOVERS in Tasca L´Albarda D-PROYECT hit the outdoor stage with their original new set. They rocked out and brought the merry crowd to a standstill with their brand of funk rock. For a 3-piece outfit they sure fill the place with sound! The band played for one hour to the delight of Polop. The sound was good and the boys had their first taste of lights, sound and cameras. Let´s hope they make it! Listen and groove. They´ll be back for sure in 2006 and you´d better not miss it!

02:00 hours - SEMILLA ANIMAL stage 2. Javi and the boys plugged in late. They should have been on stage 1. They should have played at midnight.....We fucked up. sorry! They were however brilliant once they started. They played for 45 minutes and were recorded by UKFM. The drum kit and bass amp were supplied by BLAH BLAH CAFÉ. Thanks! - The set was as usual fast, furious, dangerous and very entertaining! Not for the faint hearted though and the music can penetrate your brain like a sharp needle. the music is very well played and the voice is just demonic! Check out 3 of their live songs at the festival mp3 website http://poloprock.dmusic.com Thanks to you all and see you again soon! Thrash rules!

03:00 hours - LA MALAFOLLA stage 2. Great punk rock by this little gang of geniuses. Yes they play 3 chord wonders. Yes they are political. Yes they are radical in their dress and music. But wow! do they get a reaction from Spanish kids. This is a great band with strong convictions which can only be good for the music industry. Check out two of their live tracks at http://poloprock.dmusic.com Thanks also for setting up the 1st festival kiosk. Selling T-shirts, badges, CD´s and books it really added to the atmosphere and made the festival more interesting. LA MALAFOLLA would like to thank BLAH BLAH CAFÉ for lending their drums and bass amp for the show. Thanks and See you all at the 2006 edition!
So many thanks to all who came and all who played. What more can we say but let´s improve this event and make it something not only to look forward to but to be very proud of. I have many bands ready and willing to play at POLOP ROCK FESTIVAL 2006. They can´t wait and neither can We! The event finished later than anticipated (5am) Thanks to the local authorities for allowing this to happen. Thanks for the 300 €. donation from the townhall. Thanks to Chris Miller and Bruce Dowding for their time and energy in organising events.
